PLANNING A MARRIAGE AT OLMCelebrated Saturdays in the AM
Marriage Preparation: OLM offers spiritual and practical preparation for the couple, as they undertake the Sacrament of Matrimony. The couple should contact OLM at least six months before the desired wedding date. The couple will meet twice with the priest or deacon who will be the Celebrant for the wedding. He will guide the couple through the Marriage Preparation process. At the first meeting, he will acquaint you with needed paperwork (e.g., Birth Certificate, Baptismal Certificate,) the different options for marriage preparation, and help the couple to prepare themselves spiritually for this special sacrament.

ARRANGING A FUNERAL AT OLMDuring the coronavirus crisis, funerals may take place only in the form of “The Rite of Committal with Final Commendation” (also known as the “Graveside”.) If desired by the family, a memorial Mass can be scheduled appropriately at a later date.
The death of a loved one is marked by the grief and solemnity over the departed and in the Catholic Church the celebration of their receiving God's forgiveness and eternal life. This message of hope can be a comfort when arranging a Catholic funeral service at Our Lady of Malibu. We strive to provide the family and loved ones with compassionate support in planning a Catholic Funeral or Memorial Liturgy to celebrate and honor the life of the deceased loved one.
A Catholic Funeral officiated by a priest consists of:
1. The Funeral Vigil, aka a wake or memorial, often held in the Church, and may or may not have the remains of the deceased present.
The Rosary, when family, loved ones, and friends gather together in the home or the Church to pray the traditional eight days of Catholic prayers for the deceased customarily follows the viewing or Funeral Vigil.
2. The Mass of Christian Burial, where the remains of the departed must be present, is the liturgical service to honor your beloved in the Church, and it includes the Eucharist (Communion). You may (or request that the priest) choose liturgical readings, music, readers, etc. OLM offers the services of a musician and vocalist.
3. The Rite of Committal (graveside service) follows the Mass.
From the funeral flowers to the graveside service, OLM will spiritually assist you to offer a Catholic funeral service as the departed may have wished.

During the coronavirus crisis, priests are to attend to the needs of those who ask for the Anointing of the Sick. If a priest is sick or considered to be a high-risk individual (e.g. elderly, suffers from respiratory conditions, immunocompromised, etc.), he should request assistance from another priest.
RECEIVING ANOINTING-OF-THE-SICK
Priests attending to the needs of the sick are to observe all proper sanitary protocols and, if necessary, check-in with proper medical personnel before entering the room of the patient.
For the time being, sick calls and distribution of Holy Communion for the homebound are reserved to priests only.
Celebrated bi-annually after Easter and after Pentecost
Also during Mass when called, come join the line of those awaiting Anointing of the Sick.

GETTING BAPTIZEDDuring the coronavirus crisis, unless an emergency, the celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism is to be postponed.
Celebrated the Fourth Sunday of the MonthCHILDREN
For a child to be baptized in the Catholic Church there must be a basis of hope that the child will be raised in the Catholic faith, which generally means that at least one parent is Catholic. Each child to be baptized must also have at least one godparent who is a confirmed, practicing Catholic over the age of sixteen. Please register your child(ren) at least two months in advance with the appropriate parish office. OLM asks parents to participate in a Baptism Parent Preparation session prior to their child's baptism. This session is designed to help parents reflect spiritually on being new parents and how this change has affected their relationship with God. Reflection will also include the parents' thoughts on the faith they desire for their child. The theology of the sacrament and practical aspects of the ceremony will also be discussed.
Traditionally, infants and young children are baptized from 3 months old up to age seven.

ADULTS
For adults wishing to be baptized, Our Lady of Malibu asks that baptism be part of becoming Catholic which includes the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. (See RCIA Program: a two year process of attending our Mass while learning and living the Catholic faith.) RECEIVING FIRST COMMUNIONCelebrated at Initiation and thereafter weekly at Mass
First Communion is initiation into the Holy Eucharist. The essential signs of the sacrament of the Eucharist are the bread and wine, on which the blessing of the Holy Spirit is invoked when the priest pronounces the words of consecration spoken by Jesus during the Last Supper.
Preparation for the Eucharist is specialized for a child or adult. Before age seven, children are encouraged during the Eucharist to advance to the priest or Eucharistic Minister with their arms crossed at their breast to receive a benediction rather than the Eucharist.
The Eucharist is given to children raised in the Catholic faith usually at age seven, when they have undergone careful preparation and have sufficient knowledge to understand the mystery of Christ according to their capacity. For adults, the Eucharist is one of the three sacraments of the Rite of Christian Initiation that define our Christianity. Adults baptized as Catholics may receive the Eucharist.
CHILDREN: Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion occur in the 2nd grade. A child must be registered in the OLM Sunday School.

During the coronavirus crisis, parishes are asked to cancel all Lenten penance services. However, priests are asked to continue offering the Sacrament of Reconciliation according to the parish’s regularly established reconciliation times. Please observe good spacing between the penitent and priest, while at the same time observing privacy for the penitent. Those waiting for the priest are asked to observe “social distancing.”
DOING PENANCEConfessions are heard every Saturday at 4:00 - 4:45pm and
on the Tuesdays before annual Easter Vigil and Christmas Vigil.
The Sacrament of Penance -- also known as Confession or Reconciliation -- offers an experience of the gift of God's forgiveness. With Penance we are shown God's loving mercy, while challenging us to repent and not sin again, and to show compassion and forgiveness to those who sin against us.
"In confession we have the opportunity to repent and recover the grace of friendship with God. It is a holy moment in which we place ourselves in his presence and honestly acknowledge our sins ... With absolution, we are reconciled to God and the Church. The Sacrament helps us stay close to the truth that we cannot live without God."

CHILDREN & YOUTH: Upon completion of the Holy Sacrament of First Communion, children aged 7 and older and youth may participate in the sacrament of Penance.
ADULT: With completion of the Holy Sacrament of First Communion, adults are encouraged to heartfully and mindfully participate in Penance, the Sacrament of Reconciliation. True Reconciliation comes only with faith-filled prayer, mercy, and repentance.(DOWNLOAD THIS INFORMATION)

RECEIVING CONFIRMATIONDuring the coronavirus crisis, all Confirmations from now until Easter Sunday are postponed. The Office of the Confirming Prelate will contact parishes with Confirmations scheduled during the affected dates. Rescheduling will be handled at a later time.
Celebrated at the annual Easter Vigil
Confirmation is the Holy Sacrament that perfects Baptismal grace. It is the sacrament whick gives the Holy Spirit in order to root us more deeply in relationship with God, to draw us more firmly into Christ, to strengthen our bond with Church and bring us more closely into living her mission. Confirmation helps us to bear witness to the Christian faith in words as well as deeds.
Confirmation imprints a spiritual mark on the soul; for this reason this sacrament can be received only once in one's life. At Confirmation, a diocesan Bishop welcomes the candidates as fully initiated members of the Catholic Christian community by anointing each one with chrism (holy oil). Confirmation is one of the three sacraments of the Rite of Christian Initiation that define our Christianity.
Preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation is a two-year process and a life-long journey. The Catholic Church welcomes to the Sacrament of Confirmation youths age 16 and older and adults.
